The California Public Utilities Commission Engages everse to Develop Phase 2 of California Energy Connection

LOS ANGELES, January 15, 2003 – Today, everse corporation (everse), a technology consulting, software development, and application outsourcing company, announced that it has been engaged by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the state agency that regulates privately owned telecommunications, electric, natural gas, water, railroad, rail transit, and passenger transportation companies, to begin work on phase 2 of California Energy Connection.

California Energy Connection provides residential and small business electricity customers with information and tools to help them analyze and evaluate their electricity usage, reduce their electricity consumption and costs, learn about techniques and products to improve their energy efficiency, understand recent and ongoing changes in the California electricity market, and get up–to–the–minute news on a range of electricity–related topics.

Thorough analysis of focus groups, other energy efficiency programs, and everse innovations led everse and the CPUC to identify strategic opportunities for additional application development and enhancements for California Energy Connection. The phase 2 functionality will include enhanced business intelligence, personalization and customization, user support, and administrative tools. The new applications will make California Energy Connection an even more valuable resource for energy consumers and will help the CPUC ensure the solution continues to evolve and remain responsive to user needs.

The new and enhanced California Energy Connection applications will leverage advanced reasoning and pattern matching to identify and display targeted, personalized information to users. Detailed tracking of user behaviors and activities will be used to tailor data, recommend related content, and provide dynamic support for individual users. In addition, users’ historical energy usage and cost information will be analyzed to identify possible causes for fluctuations and to recommend consumption– and cost–cutting strategies. For California Energy Connection administrators, everse will develop backend functionality to provide more detailed analysis and reporting.

Through its Application Design & Development service, everse will leverage the technical expertise, software development discipline, process–centric methodology, and feedback–oriented change management necessary to provide rapid delivery of application function while minimizing project risks and costs. In addition, through its Program Management service, everse will continue to serve as the program management office for California Energy Connection, managing all aspects of the solution, including the evaluation, selection, and management of all third–party vendors and service level agreements. Working with the CPUC, everse will continue to maintain and enhance California Energy Connection to address consumer, industry, and regulatory needs.

According to everse CEO James Sung, “The development of the first phase of California Energy Connection was a very productive collaboration between everse and the CPUC. We look forward to further leveraging our software development capabilities and energy–industry experience to develop the next generation of the solution to provide even more value to California energy consumers.“
